On August14,2013 association „Latvian Movement for Independent
living” has signed agreement with Society Integration Foundation under
the EEA Grants 2009-2014 programme „NGO fund" about implementation of Project
„Support to the activities of Association
„Latvian Movement for Independent living” – step towards stronger civil society”.
Objective of Project plan is to strengthen the
institutional and human capacity of association „Latvian Movement for
Independent living” (hereafter – LATMIL)
and to ensure regular and sustainable involvement of LATMIL in the
development, implementation and monitoring of social policy and decision making
processes, in order to promote equal rights of persons with disability to live in the society with full inclusion
and participation in the life of society.
Project target group is association itself and
its members, but indirect target group is persons with Disabilities and their
During the implementation of project
association will be actively involved in the development of social policy to
promote the beginning of deinstitutionalization process of persons with
Disabilities in Latvia. Through the citizen forum association will foster
active citizenship of vulnerable group – persons with Disabilities and
relatives taking care of persons with Disabilities on daily basis. At the same
time skills to participate in decision making processes will be given to these
vulnerable groups. e-Participation platform, created in the framework of Project
on the long term will serve as tool to stimulate the engagement of civic
society in decision making processes. e-Participation platform will give
opportunity for the persons who are not able to be present in formulation of
opinion or position (because of the need to take daily care of relative with
disability as there is lack of community based social services), to participate in decision making processes. It
will also provide this marginalized group with actual information on the
activities of association in participatory democracy.
During the implementation of Project
association will perform the watchdog role and will monitor the quality of
States long-term care institutions for persons with disabilities. At the same
time LATMIL will advocate for the rights of persons with severe disabilities
who are segregated in the long term care institutions.
LATMIL will strengthen the organizational and
human capacity to ensure the further sustainable work, through enlargement of
membership and involvement in the international NGO coalition, as well through
development and implementation of fundraising strategy.
Project will be implemented in the premises of association in Riga and In Riga planning
implementation period of Project is from 01.08.2013. till 31.12.2015.
